Water Barrel Drum Spigot Kit

Water barrel drum spigot kits provide practical access to stored water supplies. This kit transforms any standard water barrel into a functional water source with integrated flow control. The spigot mechanism allows precise regulation and shutoff, making it ideal for garden irrigation and plant watering.

Once installed, a garden hose (with a standard garden hose fitting) can be plugged straight into the tap. Also usable without a garden hose as a tap.

Equipment Needed for Installation:

• Drill
• Hole saw or step drill
• Marker
• Adjustable spanner or grips
  
• Optional: Food-safe/water-safe silicone sealant
  
• Optional: A length of string approximately 1.5x the length of your water barrel.

Installation Instructions:

1. Choose the spigot position.
   1. Select a flat area near the bottom of the water barrel, while leaving enough clearance underneath for a bucket or hose connection.
2. Mark the hole.
   1. Hold the threaded section of the adapter against the barrel and outline the thread (circle). The threaded section will need to fit through the hole but do not make the hole too much larger than needed otherwise this may cause leaks.
3. Drill the opening.
   1. Drill a clean hole just large enough for the threaded adapter shaft to pass through. Remove any plastic burrs or sharp edges.
4. Insert the adapter.
   1. Unscrew the retaining nut from the adapter and put this aside for now (Do not remove the rubber gasket and do not lose the retaining nut).
   2. Push the threaded section of the adapter through the hole from the inside of the barrel. The thread should be sticking out of the barrel. It may be helpful to tie a small washer or weight to a piece of string to guide it down the barrel and through out the hole. Keeping the string in place, put the threaded end of the adapter into the string such that the adapter will follow the path of the string and out the newly drilled hole.
5. Re-install the retaining nut.
   1. Screw the previously removed retaining nut onto the threaded section of the spigot. Keep in mind that in this case it is anti-clockwise to tighten.
6. Secure the adapter.
   1. Tighten the retaining nut firmly enough to create a watertight seal, but do not overtighten.
7. Screw the Spigot into the adapter
   
   1. Use a small amount of the thread tape on the spigot's thread and screw the spigot onto the adapter. Use more or less thread tape as required to ensure that the spigot is upright and secure. This is where you may use food-grade silicone or sealant if you would like a permanent solution.
8. Leak test.
   1. Close the spigot and add just enough water to fully submerge the newly installed spigot. Check for leaks before packing up.
